Samsung Z630 article

samsung z630Samsung devices these days all look pretty much alike, and the Z630 is no exception. The feature that differentiates the SGH-Z630 from most of the rest of the Samsung range is that this is an HSDPA 3.5G handset, available exclusively at launch to O2 in Germany.

Overall, the SGH-Z630 is a pretty predictable device from Samsung, combining several features from other phones in the range. There’s a 2.1″ 240×320 pixel display, 2 megapixel primary camera with a seconday camera for video calls, 27Mb of internal memory with microSD expansion, stereo Bluetooth and a multimedia player.

The Samsung Z630 is quite lightweight for a 3G phone, weighing just 100 grams.. and the SGH-Z630 is pretty slim too at 13mm thick. In addition to HSDPA, the Z630 features tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM with GPRS, EDGE and UMTS support.

The current crop of Samsung phones have been well received in terms of quality of construction and features, and the Z630 will probably be no exception. It’s certainly not a distinctive device to look at though.

The Samsung SGH-Z630 is available now for O2 Germany customers, possibly later in other countries.

samsung P260 article

samsung p260Either you love it or hate it, but Samsung has decided to give you a new handset every month. If it’s not a new handset then at least there will be a new of a new handset which will be launched soon by the manufacturer. Now we have the new Samsung P260, a 2 mega pixel camera phone which has various features including a WAP browser. Unlike various Samsung phones, this phone provides easy user interface. This is a slightly heavy phone weighing 112 grams. But, I am really unable to understand why all these manufacturers are designing such heavy phones. And if you design a cumbersome phone then you should gorge it with a lot of features not the redundant ones. Well, we can only suggest things and it solely depends on the manufacturer as how it perceives the reactions. Now back to our P260, this is a tri band GSM phone which is designed to target the medium level users. The over all dimension of this phone is 101x 50x 17 mm and this is what makes it so heavy too. This phone features a 256K color TFT screen with 240x 320 pixels resolution.

The musical chord of this phone is quite melodious as you get to set various polyphonic and MP3 songs as ringtone in this handset. Samsung P260 comes with 25MB embedded memory along with microSD (TransFlash) card slot. So you can top up your memory, oops! I mean phone memory. P260 is a GPRS, EDGE, and Bluetooth enabled phone. The 2 mega pixel camera of this phone promises good images with 1600x 1200 pixels resolution. This also provides features for video recording. With the new P260 you get a stand by time up to 220 hours and talk time up to 3 hours.

samsung G800 article

samsung-G800Samsung G800 preview : At a Samsung dealer event I had the change to get my hands on the upcoming 5 Megapixel mobile phone; the Samsung G800. The Samsung G800 will be introduced later on this year, at least in the Netherlands, and target the multimedia consumer who is also into mobile imaging. The Samsung G800 is an ultra thin slider mobile phone and show off with a great design. The designer Samsung G800 cam phone has a digicam-like metallic design and features a 5 Megapixel digital camera. The handset is one of Samsung’s top models and has to bring Samsung into the high resolution market for mobile phones. This segment is interesting for the manufacturer, the consumer is willing to pay some extras for mobile image quality.
Samsung G800 mobile phone – Storage
It is kind of strange that we focus already on the new Samsung G800 while the G600 handset still has to become available for the consumer – at least for the Dutch consumer. However mobile phone developments can’t be slowed down so we just go with the mobile flow. The Samsung G800 is equipped with a ultra small card slot with microSD and microSDHC flash memory support; 4GB microSDHC will give you the ultimate storage solution. The brand new SanDisk microSDHC 8GB may also find its way into the Samsung G800; we assume this high storage capacity card will also be supported by the Samsung G800.

Samsung G800 handset preview – Mobile Photography
To bad I was not able the shoot some product shots of the camera due to the security label attached to the front side. Samsung G800 specifications learn us that the sensor offers 5 Megapixel resolution. Of course it is not only about the pixels, as we have seen for many years with the digital camera megapixel race. Internal processing software, image processor, pixel quality, sensitivity range and noise, effective flash range, stabilisation technology, etc. that will take the Samsung G800 right into the top of Mobile Photography or drop it like a stone when those features are not well enough developed. As soon as we receive a full production model of we publish a Samsung G800 review.

Samsung G800 mobile preview – Television and Multimedia player
Mobile TV is a reality today and moving towards mass market. But in order for this “killer application” to reach its full potential, cost-effective means of increasing capacity and introducing innovative new services are necessary. Mobile TV services of the future will be delivered over a combination of unicast and broadcast-capable networks. The Samsung G800 is ready for mobile television by supporting HSDPA connectivity next to the standard GPRS and EDGE. Mobile Television involves bringing TV services to the mobile phones. It combines the services of a mobile phone with television content and represents a logical step both for consumers and operators and content providers. The Samsung G800 is ready to become Samsung’s all-round multimedia player.

Samsung Serenata article

samsung-SerenataSamsung’s partnership with Bang & Olufsen has resulted in another innovative device, the Serenata. The Serenata was designed by David Lewis to be reminiscent of a rounded stone one might find at the seashore. The Serenata features click-wheel navigation with very few other buttons. Users will navigate the phone’s UI by scrolling. This click-wheel is also oddly mounted above the 2.4″ LCD display, promising an interesting user experience.

The Serenata is designed with a focus on music, with an integrated speaker system and support for MP3, WMA, and AAC music files. 4GB of internal memory offers plenty of room for music, and the Serenata supports over-the-air music downloads. Connectivity options include tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) support as well as HSDPA on the 2100MHz European frequency band. Bluetooth 2.0 is also included, as well as support for email (POP3/IMAP) and SMS/MMS. The Serenata does not have a camera, but does support video playback.

Availability is planned for November. Pricing is not yet announced.

Samsung D880 DuoS article

samsung-d880Samsung D880 DuoS

Dual sim phones are not a recent concept and many users wish for a dual sim phone, however you had doubts when it comes to buying such phone because most of the available dual sim phones are Chinese brands. The change of direction in the dual sim arena comes from Samsung, which has recently launched D880 DuoS, a 2,5G model able ho hold two sim cards simultaneously.

Selecting the operational sim comes naturally when using the colloquial User Interface that also allows setting a ringtone for each sim. Also the WAP/MMS/E-mail profiles are changed automatically.

Tech-talks

The Samsung D880 Duos users will certainly also enjoy the 2.3 inch QVGA display, the 3 megapixels autofocus camera, the document viewer, the slide design that consecrated Samsung phone, the increased capacity battery (1200 MAh) and also a business card recognition feature. Samsung brings the dual sim trend in the spotlight with Duos D880.

We shall see if Nokia and Motorola will decide to go in this direction. The only problem we could find with Samsung D880 Duos is the price: around 600$, depending on the region.

Samsung i780 article

samsung-j780Samsung’s impressively wide range of handsets just got a little bit wider with the SGH-i780 smartphone. This Windows Mobile 6 device makes very few compromises in terms of features and is likely to be one of the most appealing handsets in this market segment.

This is a 3.5G device with HSDPA data giving a maximum download speed of 3.6 megabits per second, and on top of UMTS, EDGE and GPRS the Samsung i780 also has WiFi and of course Bluetooth.

Not only does the Samsung i780 have fast data connections, but it also as inbuilt GPS (global positioning system) support, a 2.6″ 320×320 pixel touchscreen display, a well laid out BlackBerry style keypad and a two megapixel primary camera with a secondary VGA unit for video calling. The SGH-i780’s memory is expandable using microSD cards.

The Samsung i780 runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional, and this means that the SGH-i780 can work with Microsoft Office documents, browse the web, play back a variety of multimedia files and read email either through standard internet protocols or Microsoft’s DirectPush technology.

At the time of going to press the physical size and weight of the i780 weren’t known, although we believe that the footprint is around 115 x 60mm and at a guess probably weighs around 120 grams. Pricing isn’t available either, although we do understand that the SGH-i780 will be available from January 2008 onwards.

It’s quite a tidy design with neatly laid out keys, and it’s a much more attractive handset than the awful Samsung i600. It’s not exactly exciting to look at, but the neat and sober styling will certainly not look out of place for business customers.

Samsung i560 article

samsung-i550Innovation is an ongoing process. And the same goes for innovation in the mobile telecommunications domain. Leading manufacturers of mobile phones in the world are involved in the design and development of mobile phones that are better than earlier models both in terms of looks as well as features. The Samsung i560 is one such innovative handset from Samsung.

The Samsung i560 is a slide open mobile phone that is powered by third generation (3G) technology. There are two cameras that are built into the sleek design of the Samsung i560. A 3 mega-pixel digital camera that comes in the back of the handset is perfect for capturing the images and video clips of precious moments. This means that the i560 mobile phone can double up as a digital camera or a video recorder without any hassle. Users can now carry the Samsung i560 with them when they are on the move and be sure of capturing memorable moments that often have a tendency to come unawares.

There is a second camera that can be used for making video calls. The pleasure of seeing the expression on the face of loved ones has to be experienced to be believed. More intimate communication is thus possible with the advanced features of the Samsung i560.

A 240×320 pixel panel in 262,000 colors enhances the magic of the images and video clips to a significant extent of Samsung i560. The 150 MB of internal memory can be expanded through microSD cards – this makes sense as it translates into more room for storing all the images, video clips and other content.
This smartphone also comes with an integrated GPS receiver. Compatibility with 3G and HSDPA (3G+) networks makes the handset all the more special to users.

Samsung i550 article

samsung i550 sphSamsung’s Palm-based i550 has a sleek clamshell-design and will be offered by Sprint on its CDMA network. The top half of the clamshell remains to be smartphone’s main display, while the bottom half contains the standard backlit keypad and a headset jack. On the other side of the display screen is a smaller, OLED screen for basic information, such as time and date.

Unlike its earlier version, the i550 will run on Palm Os Grant, formally known as 5.2, rather than the out-of-date Palm OS 4.1. The i550’s memory is also doubled from 16Mb to 32MB, and has an SDIO slot for memory expansion and peripherals.

As for multimedia, the i550 sports a 1 megapixel camera with flash, and the user will also be able to record videos, play music, and watch MPEG4 videos. The i550’s battery is also swappable.

The i550 is rumored to have a 300MHz Intel processor, 32MB of ROM, and 324 x 352 resolution with a 16-bit (65,536 colors) display. Not much else is known about this new device yet, but we’ll report more information as it becomes available. According to Samsung, the i550 should be available sometime in the third or fourth quarter.
